FIRECOMMS
RCLED-BASED MOST® DEVICES RECEIVE AUTOMOTIVE CERTIFICATION
Cork, Ireland — February
2, 2006 — Firecomms Ltd. today announced
that its MOST® fiber optic transceiver (FOT) based
on a high-speed resonant cavity LED has been certified
by RMCtech for compliance with the MOST® (Media Oriented
Systems Transport) standard, making it the first RCLED-based
FOT to receive this certification.
RMCtech granted certification
after completing a series of rigorous reliability and
compliance tests. The independent, accredited firm tested
all required functions of the RCLED FOT for compliance
with the MOST specification.
“Not only did Firecomms’ FOT
easily pass the rigorous certification tests, these devices
delivered an additional 8dB of optical power over the
specification,” says Firecomms Project Manager
Brian McGarvey.
Firecomms’ FCM110R transmitter
and FCM110D receiver are state-of-the-art four-pin, low-cost
plastic packaged components that meet the MOST 1.1 physical
layer specification for the POF optical interface. Digital
input/output data conforms to TTL switching levels.
The
transmitter uses a novel high-speed RCLED source with
an integrated lens designed to maximize coupling efficiency.
This source provides high optical power of greater than
-7 dBm with a low operating current of less than 25mA,
and fast rising and falling optical edges of less than
4.2 nanoseconds.
“The optical budget provided by
the Firecomms MOST FOT allows us to target higher temperature
performance,” says Firecomms CEO Declan O’Mahoney. “This
enables our customers to use extra inline connectors,
and develop more efficient car harnesses. And because
RCLEDs are five times faster and more efficient than
LEDs used in competitors’ devices, we can demonstrate
high-speed future proofing for the automotive industry
up to 250Mbps.”
Firecomms RCLED FOTs incorporate
CMOS chips made by Nanotech Semiconductor, fine-tuned
in collaboration with Firecomms for optimum performance
with its MOST RCLED. The chipset is a result of the collaboration
between the two companies.
Detailed specifications for
Firecomms’ MOST FOT are available on the company
web site at www.firecomms.com. This device can be ordered
through Firecomms’ sales organization (sales@firecomms.com)
in Japan, USA, and Europe.
